The Lady Be Good was lost on her very first mission without a trace and presumed lost of over the mediterranean. With no trace of the crew or aircraft, the incident became known as a mystery. In fact, her wreckage was found in the Lybian desert 640km inland in 1958. The crew bailed out after running low on fuel, thinking they were still over the ocean. Landing in the desert the found each other with signal flares and started walking north, hoping to be near the coast. They coverd over 100km but none of them made it. Their remains but of one were found in 1960. The B-24 flew for 26km alone without a crew and made a belly landing.
