11 January 1944 marked the commencement of Operation Pointblank by the 8th Air Force. Hptm. Alfred Grislawski and the rest of I./JG1 executed a frontal attack against a B-17 formation near Dümmer See around noon, Grislawski claiming one, which was his 120th kill. B-17s of the 94th BG, QE-X "Big Stoop" and QE-L, were lost in this area at this time.
